Mia Sam

My daughter plays soccer...we think. For a couple of years now we have wondered if she has actually been practicing her cross country skills because she runs like a gazelle (like her daddy!) but on the soccer field there should be some semblance of the game.

I love my kiddo.

Her daddy and I have given her pep talks, encouraged her to be aggressive ( I mean assertive), spoke of "the old days" when we played our sport of choice, and really have been her biggest cheerleaders!

One thing we hadn't thought about was bribery. Yep, bribery.

"Samantha, if we see any sort of improvement this year in your soccer skills, we will get you a Webkinz (stuffed animal that is interactive with computer) at the end of the season."

She was thrilled. She exclaimed that she would do her best! I was still skeptical. Until game time. After two pretty hum-drum seasons, my daughter turned in to Mia Hamm. She played defense for a time and stole the ball, looked up field for an open teammate and led the ball to an open player. No fear.

Then she played on the offensive side of the ball. Again I was amazed. Her little teammate was tripped in the goalie box and though she wasn't hurt badly, she needed to be taken out of the game. Penalty kick. Coach chose Sam and without any hesitation she stepped up to the ball and kicked it through the goal!

WOW!

She was thrilled at her play and is very motivated about upcoming games.

Funny thing, we were going to get her a Webkinz anyway!
